What is Amway?

Amway (American Way) is a multinational direct-selling company that uses multi-level marketing techniques to sell products that range from health and beauty to home care, and personal care products to name a few.

There are 2 sides to Amway, the customer site and the IBO (Amway Independent Business Owner) side. On the one hand, you are an Amway customer, meaning you buy products from them and that is it, on the other hand, you still use their products, however, you promote them to other people as well, earning money as you do so. The more people you get under you and the more they get under them, the more you earn, classic MLM.

Founders and History?

Richard DeVos and Jay Van Andel who were based in Michigan founded Amway in 1959. Today Amway conducts its business through several companies in more than eighty countries worldwide. In 2012 Amway was rewarded, with the 25th position by Forbes for being one of the largest private companies in the U.S. By the year-end of 2012, more than $11 billion in sales were recorded, making Amway one of the most successful network marketing companies that have been in business for well over 50 years.

Any Up-Sales?

Other than the fees, needed when registering, making payments, and so forth, Amway doesn’t really have any up-sales per se, but, keep in mind that one might need to travel to attend meetings, and so forth, which can over time, leaving a dent in one’s pocket.

Legit or a Scam?

Amway has been around for 60+ years, making billions of dollars in the process, and having members earn their keep as well. They have all kinds of products, that get delivered, and clients are willing to testify to its credibility. There are reviews upon reviews, from people who have been using Amway, for years now. my point is this, it is an MLM platform, no matter how you spin it, and as such, there will be a bunch of people claiming scam, however, the program is legit, and if you are willing to learn and put in the hard work and time, you can be successful, but nothing is a guarantee.

What About Support?

Amway has quite a few ways of giving support, including, email, phone, FAQ pages, articles, digital assistance, screen sharing, and even a tool called DITTO. All of these methods are to ensure, that you get help if need be, however, in my personal opinion, having multiple ways of support, does not make it great support. Sure calling them is the quickest way of support, but others, such as email, and so forth, can take a bit of time, and as such, in my opinion, They can do a bit better, but it is not the worst I have seen.

As for DITTO, well it is a delivery and order support system, meaning it helps schedule orders, and/or deliveries, which especially comes in handy if you order the same thing regularly. This way, you use DITTO to preset orders, and not have to worry about doing it every time.

Keep in mind that this is still an MLM-based income, meaning, support will also depend on your team leader(s), location, and the overall success of your group. Some countries have active teams with regular meetings, educational classes, and so forth, while others are pretty much dead and leave you to cope on your own.

Here in South Africa, the Amway teams are pretty much dead in the water. Questions on social pages do not get answered and I think it is safe to say that Amway has run its course over here. We can thus conclude that support will greatly be determined by location.

Do They Have Tutorials and/or Training?

When you become an Amway IBO, you will have access to guidance and training that will assist you in establishing your business, and it includes:

  • Business and Leadership training courses
  • You can choose online or in-person training for better product and sales knowledge.
  • Training and support from your sponsor and other Amway IBO members.
  • Customer Service to answer all questions.

Training includes:

  • Product-specific training
  • Business Education
  • Mentoring programs
  • Self-improvement

Can I make money with Amway and How?

Individuals who are interested in joining Amway will start by registering as an Amway Ibo and it will give them access to the compensation plan. You will also need to get in touch with your sponsor for this person will have to help you with the training and your compensation plan.

Since Amway is a multilevel marketing program, you will make money when you or those whom you had sponsored sell the products. You will have full responsibility for your down line and you will have to make sure that they become successful as well to make a decent income.

This will be your business and only you can determine how much effort and time you want to put into it. With Amway, you are rewarded for the work you do and if you feel that time would be a problem, it would not be such a good idea to go with this method of earning.

This is NOT a “get rich quick” scheme it will take hard work and a long period before you might see results. Amway is a 2 to 3-year plan and you will need to work at it consistently by prospecting, going to the major functions, and attending your team’s weekly meetings.

To sum it up:

You buy products at wholesale prices and then sell them at retail prices, the difference is yours to keep. Also earn additional bonuses, incentives, and rewards. You will also earn rewards when you help others to reach their sales goals.

Who Is The Program Intended For?

Amway has helped people become independent business owners that sell physical products.

Now, this part is the most crucial for you need to understand that the company revolves around MLM, and for you to be successful, you will have to recruit people and teach them how to recruit more people to make a substantial amount of money.

With any MLM opportunity, there is one rule – No Fear of talking to people!

If you hate cold calling or following up on leads, this will not be for you, because you will be selling physical products and you will have to deal with questions or handle difficult customers who are not satisfied with the product.

If you feel that you will have trouble doing this, then I would recommend that you find a program that will not require constant communication and still allow you to build a business online.

Amway Products

There are more than 450 products that can help you to build a retail business, the product lines include water and air purifiers, Personal care products, home care products, jewelry, electronics, Nutrilite dietary supplements, cosmetics, and even insurance to name a few.

Amway has Eco-Friendly Products and includes popular brands like Artistry, XS, Nutrilite, and Legacy of Clean.

Amway products can ONLY be purchased through an Amway distributor. Products are nowhere else available for purchase to make sure that you are promoting something unique.

Cons

Amway products are a bit overpriced, considering other brands offer the same products but at a lower price.

Amway has great products, no doubt about it. The same could not be said for their business opportunity side of things, as most people classify it as a pyramid scheme or scam, making it really hard to promote. MLM was a good thing years ago, but now it is not so popular anymore, as too many people label it as a pyramid scheme. In addition, your success will not just depend on how you perform, if your team is lazy or not working as they should, your income will suffer.

Amway was one of the first MLM companies, so it is no surprise that they pressured their IBO into heavily promoting their products along with making them buy more and more of the products themselves.

My Opinion…

The hardest part of Amway is suggesting it to family and friends or people that you do not know. The pricing does play a huge factor for most people who would genuinely be interested in buying the product but then turn away because they don’t want to pay that much for a product they don’t really need.

Amway scams

I think Amway would be a tough nut to crack for those who have absolutely no marketing experience because you will have to give yourself at least two years before you will be able to earn a substantial amount.

Finally yet importantly, like in any other business, you will find sponsors who will not be active in helping their recruits, therefore you must be careful whom you choose as an IBO sponsor. A lack of support and help is just about enough to cause failure.

I think soon, MLMs will become something of the past as it has pretty much-lost effectiveness in the buying market. Been labeled as a scam and the workload required to be successful has little attraction left.  Only time will tell if Amway will roll with the waves of change or get knocked down by it.

Do You Use Amway or Used It In the Past?
